So I somehow got to read this article (see below link) on the way to home on a train and thought why don't I write something like this, since not a lot of tax accountants write about what they do. So here it is.
8:35 @the office and wash my hands to keep me away from all them virus.
9:00 go on xero and do weekly coding for one of the biggest clients - this should make the process easier for year-end financials.
9:40 probs continuing the job that was left behind from yesterday, but I will just tell you the whole process of starting a job since I feel a bit chatty.
If it’s a small job i.e. an individual tax return (ITR) then download a prefill report from ATO Portal and just import it to the system (Tax Manager). You can’t forget excel workpaper tho.
If this is a bigger job, let’s say a group with individuals, a company and a trust. Then still download reports from ATO portal, but from here you need to prepare excel workpapers for each entity Now allocate transaction to correct account and make a clean looking financials comparing to the last year. Since this is a group, don’t forget your inter-entity stuff.
In between time I also visit super team for a confirmation on the client’s superannuation contribution (personal or employer). And they may need to adjust some things.
Also, the reviewer may ask you to come over and go through what I need to amend. If they are minor then they will show you on the spot, but if it’s time consuming then back to my desk and gotta fix them mess.
11:00 morning tea time! Gotta go toast some bread and put a slice of cheese on top of it.
12:00 occasional meetings with the social committee team to discuss which stripper we need to bring into work to spice things up. Jokes, jokes - just to discuss ways to raise donations.
13:00 lunch time finalllyyyyyy. I usually go for a walk with my colleague to consume vitamin D, but on Thursdays we have a tax training. So more tax stuff (but with free lunch).
14:00 back to work.
15:00 time for a team workflow meeting. This happens regularly to see how everyone’s up to with their budget and if we can make it for the month-end. This is also to allocate jobs in the beginning of the month, and maybe reallocate for someone who's out of work.
17:00 home timeeeeeee. But depending on whether I need to finish off work I may stat back a little.
