I was introduced to this book by one of my favourite Youtuber (at the time), Tyler Oakley. He mentioned that the movie adaptation is coming out, and watching the trailer really urged me to read the book. I realised that it is fun imagining the casts as the characters from the book. Now that I come to think of it, the casting director has a crucial role.

The book was very captivating. It was to the point where as soon as I woke up from a sleep I was subconsciously imagining what would happen in the next chapter. I just couldn’t get the book out of my head. Even my mum agreed.

Brief Overview

The story begins with a group of boys (and one girl) trying to escape a place called Glade. However, later on (spoiler) Thomas (the protagonist) discovers the escape hole. Then they find out the reason why they were put in the Glade.

Even though there are a lot of things going on the book was easy to read. Honestly, if I have a whole day of nothing to do, I could read the book in half a day. But from reading this, I found out that I'm more of a 'romance' type of gal.

The Hunger Games?

When I was doing my research on the book (well, mostly from YouTube comments), some were arguing that the author has copied off Suzanne Collins' The Hunger Games, my favourite book of all time. But Maze Runner was published in 2010, a year after The Hunger Games. If he actually did copy, how can anyone write a book THIS GOOD in a year. It is undeniable that the story is reasonably similar though. But, if The Hunger Games starts from the Reaping day where people were elected to go into the arena, The Maze Runner is the other way around, starting from the arena (the Glade) and later on reveals how they got “elected” later.
